چکیده

Introduction: In this work, we report on the results of a combined scanning electron microscopy and micro-Raman spectroscopy investigation of stishovite and coesite in shocked Hospital Hill quartzite from the Vredefort impact structure of South Africa. Sanples have investigated using optical microscopy and under the scanning electron microscope, using energy dispersive x-ray spectrometry (EDS), and electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD). Both highpressure silica phases were identified by micro-Raman spectrometery. The conditions of their formation and distribution related to shock-induced high pressure metamorphism are discussed in order to better understand the response of planetary materials to shock metamorphism.

Coesite and stishovite in a shocked lunar meteorite, Asuka-881757, and impact events in lunar surface.

Microcrystals of coesite and stishovite were discovered as inclusions in amorphous silica grains in shocked melt pockets of a lunar meteorite Asuka-881757 by micro-Raman spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy, electron back-scatter diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. These high-pressure polymorphs of SiO(2) in amorphous silica indicate that the meteorite experienced an equili...

Shock Induced Feldspar and Silica Transformation in Polymict Eucrite

Introduction: Howardite-eucrite-diogenite (HED) meteorites belong to the largest group of achondrites and originate from protoplanet 4 Vesta. The surface of Vesta has been extensively affected by impacts which brecciated and mixed eucrite and diogenite material to produce a regolith and formed large basins in the south pole region [1]. Shock features preserved in meteorites due to high-velocity...

Shock Processes in Porous Quartzite: Transmission Electron Microscope Observations and Theory

A high-resolution study of shocked Coconino Sandstone from Meteor Crater, Arizona, was undertaken using transmission electron microscopy to investigate the textural relations of high-pressure phases produced by meteorite impact. In weakly shocked rocks (estimated average pressure, P < 100 kb), quartz in the interiors of grains retains its initial microstructure, but near original grain boundari...

Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Raman Spectroscopy of Multi-Genesis Serpentine Polymorphs of Darepahn Ophiolites

The present article pays to some Alpine-Himalayan ophiolites of Late Cretaceous age from Darepahn area in the southern part of Nain-Baft Ophiolite belt. Whole rock processed data clearly shows that the metaperidotite rocks are silica-poor with low CaO, Al2O3, and TiO2 that reflect the predominance of olivine over calcic pyroxene in the protolithes. The considerable content of Co (85.6–124.6 ppm...
